A Cultural Day in Lisbon

Surely it has happened to you have spent a lot of time looking for what to do during the day and ended up doing nothing. Right? We can confirm that this will never happen again! Well, at least for one day. Discover Lisbon and enjoy the city like a Lisboner! Are you ready for a cultural day in Lisbon?

Morning: have breakfast and explore!

Start your morning with breakfast at Confeitaria Nacional, in Rossio, just a few minutes walking from Hotel Portuense. Founded in 1829, this coffee shop is known for its pastries and wonderful palace look alike decoration.

Afterwards, as you only get to truly know a culture if you allow yourself to dig deeper than the touristic sights, take a walk through two of Lisbon’s traditional neighbourhoods: Alfama and Graça. Enjoy the wonderful streets, smells, and viewpoints that you’ll find along the way and experience the core life of the city!

Then, finish your walk at São Jorge’s Castle to get a panoramic view of Lisbon.

Lunch: eat and shop!

Go to the trendiest spot in the city: the Lx Factory! To get there take an Uber, taxi or the 15E tram at Praça da Figueira and get out at the Alcântara- Av. 24 de Julho stop. The Lx Factory is filled with restaurants and bars as well as with unique stores and art, such as the Bordalo II work, which makes it ideal to relax and shop! If you like markets, do not miss the opportunity to go there on a Saturday morning: it’s a Portuguese Notting Hill!

Afternoon: Museums, Monuments and Palaces

Pick up a bicycle or a scooter and ride towards Belém, where you can see the Tagus river, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries, MAAT, National Coach Museum and Jerónimos Monastery. If you have time, don’t forget to visit the National Palace of Ajuda, the official residence of the Portuguese royal family from Luís I of Portugal to the end of the monarchy. It’s really a time machine!

Dinner: a traditional dish, please!

At the end of the day, go grab dinner at one of the most iconic restaurants in Lisbon: the Rui dos Pregos. Located in the Passeio Doca de Santo Amaro, this place not only has a beautiful view of the river and the 25th of April Bridge but also serves one of the best “pregos” (a traditional Portuguese dish) in town! After dinner, go for a walk near the Tagus and enjoy the city lights!
